Whats with all the one trick ponies? How is it possible that in a profession where a person never knows what the next client is going to ask for, that we now have a huge crop of “artists” who are only good at one style? How can you call yourself a tattoo artist when you are only good at one basic style? And whats worse is that some of these so called “artists” are now, thanks to the magic of television, famous. Well forget for a second about the magic of the television tattoo artist and come back to reality. A REAL tattoo artist has to be able to bust out whatever the next client asks for. If a woman comes to me and wants a very dainty feminine tattoo and then the next client is a guy looking for a bold colorful piece, I’m ready to do whatever whoever asks for. The tattooists in this business who say they only do one style, or they only enjoy doing a certain style of work or even funnier, they “specialize”. Get the fuck out of my face with that bullshit!!! All artist’s are NOT created equal! And even if you are better at that one style that you cling to than most others, that still doesn’t put your work up on a pedestal because you can’t do it all! Anybody can practice their strengths and get good results from one style of work, but a tattoo artist has to be versatile. In the real world you never know what kind of things a client is gong to want done. What am I supposed to do, tell a person I’m not going to a tattoo they want because that’s not what i do? NO. I am a TATTOO ARTIST, which means when you want a tattoo, you see me. Notice that i didn’t specify what kind of tattoo. Do you know why? Because i don’t care what you want! A true artist knows that comfort zones are for pussies, and will challenge himself to master whatever task is in front of him. Whatever it is, my job is not to tell you what you can or can’t get, my job is to make it happen and make it look as good as it can. I don’t have to like your idea, your design, hell i don’t even have to like you! I just have to make sure that whatever you ask me to do looks as good and is done as well as it possibly can. That’s it. That’s vers-art-tility. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
